Vehicle Emergencies And The Role of a LED Emergency Light

January 31st, 2012

When you are navigating the roadways, its important to remember that anything can happen to you and your vehicle at any time. Your vehicle could breakdown, you could get a flat tire, you could be in an accident or you may come across one. When any of these events happen to you, it helps if you are prepared. One of the ways that you can be prepared for any eventuality is to have an emergency kit in your vehicle. You can purchase them at a hardware or outdoors store a compact emergency kit that fits nicely into your vehicle without being in the way. They usually contain candles, an emergency blanket, flares, road cones, waterproof matches, and a flashlight or emergency light source.

College Football Picks Explained

January 31st, 2012

Picking college football game. has become more and more popular in recent years. The process of picking the game. happens in a number of forums in a number of places every year during the fall season of college football. Understanding what the situations are and why picking college football games are enjoyable to some makes the whole industry more understandable. Here, college football picks are explained in the context of several situations.

The Spread

To have college football picks explained properly, you need to first understand point spreads. The point spread is how sports books encourage betting on both sides of any game. A number is assigned to a team in the game. That number is how many points the book believes that team would need to have added to their score for you, the better, to believe they might win the game. For instance, if Indiana is playing Northwestern, the book may say the line is Indiana plus 3. That means, if you bet on Indiana and they win or lose by less than three, you win the bet. The spread is part of what makes picking college football games difficult and exciting.

The Office Pool

College football picks explained in the context of the office pool, or any pool for that matter, make it easier to understand. In a pool, money is collected from a number of individuals and held centrally. The money is then paid out to the winner, and sometimes paid to second, third, etc. places in the competition as well. In a pool, the participants would compete by picking college football games every week. In many pools, the games are picked using the point spread (see above). This makes the selections more challenging and thus the money harder to win.

Straight Gambling

College football picks explained to one may also be mentioned in connection with actual gambling with a sports book. Some people who enjoy gambling like to use sports books to bet on their favorite college football picks. That is because they at least feel like they have some knowledge of what is going on and have a fighting chance. Unlike casino games, there is little about football gambling you dont control except for the lines. That false sense of control is what makes picking college football games as a way of gambling incredibly popular.

That, in a nutshell, is college football picks explained. You will find that no matter where you go, there are people picking college football games for a number of reasons. By learning what the betting lines and point spreads are, you have a better idea of how the process works. Additionally, by understanding how a pool works and how much many people enjoy straight up gambling on college football picks you can see what the appeal is in picking the games. Though it may not be your cup of tea, you will find that there area thousands of people out there who pick college football games every week for one reason or another.

Diet Compliance Vs. Diet Cheating: How Strict Should Your Weight Loss Program Be?

January 31st, 2012

Copyright 2006 Tom Venuto

Depriving yourself of foods you enjoy is not productive to your fat loss efforts in the long run. If you want to lose fat permanently and healthfully without going crazy with cravings or battling with binges, then heres what you must do instead: Find a sensible way to work even your most “sinful” favorite foods into your diet, but do it in an amount and frequency that doesn’t set you back or sabotage your progress.

This can be done by allowing yourself some “cheat meals” (some people call them “free meals” or “reward meals.”)

One really good way to look at the “cheat meals” concept is in terms of compliance,” which means, what percentage of your meals are following the guidelines of the program and what percentage are off the program.

Too many meals or days off the program and your results are compromised. Too many days in a row eating nothing but “rabbit food” and you go insane with cravings, right?

How much you need to comply (stick with) your diet program varies from person to person. It depends a lot on how ambitious your goals are and on how responsive your body is to nutrition and exercise.

When making your decision, keep in mind we all have different genetics and body types, which is something I discuss in great detail in my book, Burn The Fat, Feed The Muscle.

For example, are you a carb-tolerant mesomorph who gains muscle easily and loses fat easily or are you a carb-sensitive endomorph who gains fat easily? Depending on the answer, your diet program may need to be more or less strict than others.

Don’t compare yourself to others – you have to get to know your own body type. Some people can “Get away with” more cheat meals and still make progress (Yeah, I hate them too!)

Unless you’re a competitor in physique sports like bodybuilding, fitness or figure, or you’re getting ready for some type of transformation challenge or photo shoot, I suggest at least 90% compliance.

Whether you adjust your level of compliance above 90% (get more “strict”) or below 90% (get more lenient), depends how far away or close you are from achieving your goals, and most importantly, on what kind of results you’re getting each week.

If you’re complying 90% of the time, and youre getting awesome results, then you don’t have to change a thing, and you may be able to loosen up your diet a little. I know some people who are definitely only “on the program” 80% or 85% of the time and they look great.

90% compliance means you are following healthy nutritious, fat-burning eating guidelines 9 meals out of 10. For example, if you’re eating small frequent meals like any effective fat loss program suggests, that’s 5 small meals a day X 7 days a week = 35 meals. 90% compliance means about 31-32 of those meals are spot-on! The other 3 or 4 are for you to enjoy special occasions, reward yourself, and live a little.

If you’re like most people, and you simply want to drop a few pounds, trim a few inches off your waistline and look better in shorts or in a swimsuit for summer, then 100% compliance is unrealistic and unnecessary. 90% compliance is more realistic as a lifestyle, while being strict enough for most people to get results.

On the other hand, if you had a very ambitious goal like preparing for a figure or fitness competition and you thought you had to reach at least 12 or 13% body fat (which is very low for women), and you knew you would be onstage with judges looking at every inch of your body in a teeny bikini (paying very close attention to whether anything on your butt and thighs was “jiggling”), then you would want to be as strict as possible during the pre contest diet period (100% compliance or very close to it).

Keep in mind that in a competitive situation, every time you “cheat” and your competitors don’t cheat, you decrease your probability of placing high in the contests.

Unless you have a competitive physique goal like this, however, then total deprivation of pleasure foods or cheat meals (100% compliance), is not necessary because you always tend to crave what you cannot have. That’s a binge waiting to happen.

I prefer this 90 or 95% compliance approach over the “entire day of cheating” approach, because I have seen people use the term “cheat day” pretty loosely (basically making it the equivalent of BINGE DAY), and they do a lot of damage in terms of setting their progress back.

They end up frantically playing “catch up” for the better half of the following week with punishing extra exercise and dietary deprivation. Slow and steady is better than binge and punish don’t you agree?

Allow yourself some leeway. Enjoy food. Enjoy life. Have your pizza, or chocolate or whatever makes your stomach happy. It will help, not hurt in the long run. Just be sure to be mindful of your calorie limits, and when you say you are going to comply 90% of the time, then keep your promise to yourself and comply!

Jerk Reactions: The Reason We Are Often Jolted Out Of Sleep

January 31st, 2012

No matter what time we get up in the morning, what our day consisted of, or how late we decided to call it a night, getting a good night’s sleep is something we all want and need, but all do differently. Some of us are naturally “restless” sleepers. Despite our exhaustion an efforts, we toss and turn, finding it almost impossible to get comfortable and (perhaps just when we get settled in and comfortable) are awakened by just about any little noise, movement, or glimpse of light. Yet, others (of us) are sound sleepers who easily fall asleep, remain virtually undisturbed and “incapacitated” until the next day or until the alarm clock jolts us out of bed (and with lots of effort at that).

However, the one thing that most of us have in common once we’ve dozed off is that from time to time we all experience a jerking action as our bodies and minds zone into the zone of sleep. And, it frequently leaves us with the feeling that we are falling.

Ever wonder why this happens, and what causes it? If youre like most of us, we’re sure you have.

According to experts, it’s all part of a phenomenon known as sleep start. Sleepstart, ironically is an occurrence that even scientists cant fully explain and don’t totally understand. However the most widely accepted scientific speculation and explanation is that the brain misinterprets the relaxation process that muscles experience as you drift into sleep. As a result the brain then notifies, or rather, alerts the muscles, and encourages them to suddenly tense up in an effort to prevent the sensation of “falling”.

However, experts assert that regardless of whether these jolts, jolt you out of sleep or not, they are quite common, normal, and nothing to worry about.

Photographing Flowers

January 31st, 2012

Flower photography is one of the most popular forms of photography. You can photograph flowers growing in the wild, flowers that are cultivated in greenhouses and gardens, or photograph cut flowers and arrangements indoors,in a studio setting.

Both film and digital cameras work well for flower photography.

Any lens can be used in flower photography, from the ultra-wide angle lens (17mm),to the super-telephoto lens (300mm or 400mm),but if you are serious about closeup flower photography, buy a macro lens.

Most point-and-shoot digital cameras come with a built-in macro mode.Your digital camera’s macro feature lets you get very close to your subject, and that is important when photographing flowers.

A tripod is essential because it reduces the chance that you’ll get a blurry image. Many tripods, even when fully collapsed, are too high for photographing low growing flowers. That is why you need to get a tripod that allows you to get close to the ground. A special kind of tripod, called a tabletop tripod, is great for photographing small flowers and other objects.

Use a color-saturated type film. A film with an ISO 50 or ISO 100 will give you bright colors. Don’t use film faster than ISO 400 for flower photography.

The ideal lighting for photographing flowers is the soft, diffused light of open shade or a cloudy day.Night photography is also an option.A flower photo can be very attractive when illuminated by flash.Wind is the most annoying factor when photographing flowers,so be patient and wait for the wind to die down before you take a picture.

Whether you’re photographing flowers indoors or outdoors, consider unusual angles.Try photographing your flowers in early morning light and photograph them again in late afternoon light.Use warming filters to create mood. Add water droplets to the petal of your flower and give it that dewy, morning look. Experiment with backlighting and try to highlight the transparency of the petals.

Don’t forget that, although most people love color photography, creative flower photography can be in monochrome as well.

The only way of developing successful techniques in flower photography is to practice, and also learn more about flowers.Botanical gardens and nature preserves are some of the places where you can not only take photos of flowers but also learn more about them.

Health Benefits of Weight Training

January 30th, 2012

People lift weights for various reasons. Some lift weights to build strength and endurance, improve their health, while others just want to look good. Whatever the reason, the health benefits of this exercise are just overwhelming. There are two basic types of weight lifting that produce different results. These principles become important for individuals who are training for certain sports. Exercisers who want to develop strength may train with heavy weights with fewer repetitions. On the other hand, individuals who want to develop muscle endurance may use light weights and more repetitions. Whatever the effect, heavy and light weight training may bring health benefits to anyone who engages in it.

Desperate Haste

January 30th, 2012

“Why should we be in such desperate haste to succeed, and in such desperate enterprises?”… Henry David Thoreau.

These lines were written while Thoreau was living in hut at the edge of Walden pond near Concord, Massachusetts, between 1845 and 1847. Even then, this individualist philosopher recognized the problems of society’s materialistic value system.

It seems no one listened as we see the beginnings of the twenty first century with the “Corporate Alien” dictate of “desperate haste.” Companies go in and out of business, they merge to form bigger companies and exert an ever growing influence on the general public. Products come and go as there seems to be an ever growing need to innovate.

Marketing dictates our entire existence: from politicians and statesmen, whose campaigns cost millions to ordinary citizens whose lives are being entirely led by the commercialism of today’s media. The few that have acquired large amounts of wealth are setting the standards for the rest of us so that their wealth would continue to grow at our expense.

It’s not enough for one family member to earn a living these days. It seems that we’re all hurrying to work and hurrying back home on our workdays. Traffic rush hours are starting earlier and ending later. We’re always in a hurry to get somewhere in our cars. Some of us can’t just drive; we must chat or conduct business on our cell phones. It seems that many drivers usurp the rights of the lowly pedestrian. The auto seems to have the right of way because it’s bigger than the non mechanized walking individual.

Kids don’t just go out and play, like people of my generation used to do. Now kids have to be kept active with school sponsored activities, so parents must also drive them back and forth from school, to school and from one activity to another. Everything is so rushed, there seems to be very little time to get to know something really well.

There is no shortage of cars on the streets these days. People only walk far enough to get from their car to the store and from the store to their car. Even if the store is a couple of blocks away, they still take their cars. There are very few pedestrians, and these poor souls must yield the right of way to most drivers or face death or serious injury. Hit and runs are becoming very common. Drivers hit someone because they’re in too much of a hurry. They leave the scene because they can’t bear to face the financial and psychological burdens imposed by the complexity of modern laws.

When you consider all the news sources, if you did nothing but read for twenty-four hours per day, you still would miss quite a bit of news. Bloggers are encouraged to post every day, so that people wouldn’t get bored with your blog. We are living in an age of information overload and “desperate haste.”

It seems like everyone is desperate to sell us something. Our emails are bursting with discounts on everything from Viagra to substantial home loans. They promise to make us millionaires for $49.95. They give us more credit than we could handle so that we remain poor but buy things as if we were rich. They place spyware on our computers to track our buying habits.

The rise of the Personal Computer was, in itself, an exercise in desperate haste. Twenty six years ago there was a computer called the Commodore 64 that ran with 64 kilobytes of memory and was able to run basic office functions. Today’s computers are being sold with from 512 Megabytes to 1 Gigabyte of memory and this number is still growing as newer software gets developed. From 64K to 512M, today’s memory needs are about 10,000 times greater than that of early machines. The disk storage went from the single-sided 5.25 inch floppy storing 180K to commonly available 160G and larger hard disks. Disk storage has increased a million fold in twenty-five years.

You may claim that this is truly progress, but it is actually too much progress in too short of a time. Much of this progress was done to continually obsolete old equipment and sell new equipment. It also adds to the frustration of people trying to learn new software and just as they get good at it, it becomes obsolete.

Because everything was done in such a hurry, the systems designed are relatively inefficient. They must be constantly patched to keep from being taken over by viruses and spyware. I believe that we could have had extremely efficient systems consisting of an old IBM PC containing an 8086 processor, 640 Kilobytes of memory and 30 Megabytes of storage. But because there is no efficient software written for this type of system, it finds itself in a museum.

It seems the harder we work, the less time we have to stop and smell the roses. The more we rush, the poorer and more frustrated we become. As the world gets more corporate, the pace of our lives will quicken even more.

Today there is no value, no idea, and no purpose that doesn’t have its roots in some financial scheme. As long as we worship the corporate alien god we called money, our lives will continue to move with “desperate haste.”

Mr. Thoreau had a suggestion for us if we want to challenge today’s overly fast paced environment. He said “If a man does not keep pace with his companions, perhaps it is because he hears a different drummer. Let him step to the music which he hears, however measured or far away.”

Favres Back But Will It Help the Packers?

January 30th, 2012

Favre will be back in 2006, after practically holding the team hostage since the season wrapped up in December, on the heels of Favres worst season as a starting quarterback in the NFL. In 2005, Favre threw 20 touchdowns (his lowest total since 2000 and tied for his third lowest total overall) and 29 interceptions (a career high) while throwing for 3881 yards. Though he did complete 61% of his passes, he had a penchant for forcing passes that a younger, stronger Favre traditionally made. For all practical purposes, he was a gunslinger with a lower caliber weapon. His interceptions seemed to come at the worst possible times, and towards the end of the season, Favre looked so bad that experts around the country were calling for Favre to be benched so that Aaron Rodgers could get some experience.

Additionally, Favre seems to have lost his ability to win in the playoffs, in fact, he has cost his team playoff wins since 2000. From 1993-1998, Favres Packers were 9-5. From 2001-2004, the Packers have gone just 2-4, with Favre throwing 13 interceptions compared to just 9 touchdowns.

The Packers were the definition of a hard-luck team in 2005, with 5 of their 12 losses coming by less than 3 points. In fact, the only blow-out loss of the season was a 48-3 loss to the Ravens in Baltimore in December. Keep in mind that the Packers were without Javon Walker and Ahman Green, who played a combined six games. While Green will be back, Walker (who has become increasingly disgruntled with the Packers and had threatened to hold out for 10 weeks if he wasnt dealt) was traded to the Broncos for a 2nd round pick in the 2006 draft. Walker had racked up nearly 2500 receiving yards and 22 touchdowns in his three seasons with Favre, so his loss is significant. The Packers havent filled his void, and will rely on Donald Driver, Rod Gardner, Bubba Franks, Robert Ferguson, and the recently drafted Greg Jennings to try to pick up his slack. Driver did catch 86 balls for 1221 yards in 2005 and 84 balls for 1208 yards in 2004, but he isnt the same deep threat or red-zone presence that Walker was. He had only 5 touchdown catches in 2005, and a career-high 9 touchdown receptions in 2004.

It will be the return of Ahman Green that will help Favre the most in 2006, assuming that he can remain healthy. The balance and scoring threat that Green brings, coupled with his ability to bail out the passing game as a safety valve for Favre, will significantly improve the 2006 version of the Packers. However, Green is 29 years old, an age at which running backs traditionally break down. As long as Green stays on the field, the Packers will be a better team. If Green goes down, Sam Gado will become the man again. Gado was a bright spot for the 2005 team, but he still only rushed for 582 yards in 8 games, and cant be relied on to carry the load over the balance of a season. Green Bays failure to upgrade in this area could come back to haunt them in 2006.

While Favre is back for one last hurrah, the Packers on Opening Day 2006 will look very similar to the Packers from Opening Day in 2005. The defense will be slightly better, with the additions of A.J. Hawk and Abdul Hodge by way of the draft, but they will need some time to adjust to the NFL game. Assuming the Packers can stay healthy, the team will compete. As it stands now, the Vikings and Bears are both superior to the Packers on paper, and both should finish with better records than the Pack. It will be a struggle for them to make the playoffs, meaning that Favre will go out on a down note. That is, of course, assuming that Favre retires after 2006.

Favres legacy will always remain. Hell be remembered as the quarterback that brought the Packers back to glory. Hes #2 behind Dan Marino in almost every significant all-time passing category. It wouldve been hard for him to walk away after a 4-12 disastrous season but what Favre needed to realize was that a terrible season alone wouldnt ruin his legacy. Two or three terrible seasons in a row to close out a career will, however, leave a stain on an otherwise sterling career.

Why Using Noise Reduction Headphones With An Mp3 Player Is Better Than Earbuds

January 30th, 2012

MP3 players and portable CD players usually come with the standard earbud headphones. Earbuds fit into the ear like a hearing aid and are lightweight and portable. Their advantages, however, stop there. When it comes to the quality of the music you are listening to, that quality can be greatly diminished due to the inability of earbud headphones to filter out the noises that you are not interested in listening to; such as the voices, car engines, train noises, and barking dogs that may be all around you when you are out in public.

One of the great advantages of MP3 players, such as iPods, and portable CD players is that you can take them with you wherever you go. Sometimes the very reason for bringing them along on an outing is so that you can entertain yourself while you are engaged in other activities, such as jogging, riding on the subway, or waiting in line at the Department of Motor Vehicles. Soothing music being piped into your ear can go a long way in easing tension when you are running errands; and upbeat, rhythmic music can help tremendously when you are exercising and need incentive to go that extra mile.

Fortunately, there is an excellent alternative to earbud headphones. Noise reduction headphones can enhance the quality of the music you are listening to by making sure that you get nothing but the music, in exactly the way you should be hearing it. While earbuds sit inside your ear, possibly causing irritation and discomfort, headphones are styled to fit around your ear like earmuffs, guaranteeing that they will not only reduce outside noise, but will feel comfortable as well. While, with earbuds you usually have to increase the volume to be able to hear the music that you are trying to listen to, noise reduction headphones can keep the volume at a comfortable level and allowing you to enjoy your music in the top-quality manner that it is intended to be heard.

The portability of MP3 players encourages prolonged use, especially by teenagers. Unfortunately, the combination of increased volume and longer listening time may cause hearing damage which can lead to hearing loss. The use of noise reduction headphones can help protect hearing by delivering music without the increased decibel level. This also allows listener to enjoy their music longer without suffering hearing damage.

Noise reduction headphones work not only by surrounding your ears, therefore helping to block out outside noises, but also by using noise-cancellation technology, which further enhances your music only experience. Not only do noise reduction headphones help to filter out all noises except what your MP3 player is outputting, they also contain your music thus not disturbing those around you. The noise reduction works both ways you hear your music like you are supposed to, and others dont have to listen along with you.

A good set of noise reduction headphones does not have to be cumbersome, either. Taking into consideration what portable music device users need, the makers of noise reduction headphones are making their product light, foldable, and easily portable.

When you purchase your MP3 player or portable CD player, one of the best things you can do after that is to put aside the earbud headphones that come with it and buy a good set of noise reduction headphones. You wont be sorry.

Blow Horns for Safety

January 30th, 2012

One of the favorite and liked vehicles around is cars, which are extremely striking and mighty efficient as well. It solves many purposes such as no further standing in the queue waiting for bus, carrying goods from one place to another, patrolling and many more purposes. Isnt it surprising that people doesnt pay much attention to car parts or car accessory, essentials that makes cars useful and effective. One such essential component of car is the horns. Car horn sound magnetizes loads of attention. The main function of a siren or a car horn is to alert and aware the people from any kind of danger. Designing a proper and effective siren or a car horn therefore, involves loads of research and study between the necessities to modify sounds and the need of providing apt warning signals. For instance, a police siren that itself alerts the people of its coming. Similarly, by a specific kind of siren, you can very well judge out whether it is a fire brigade or an ambulance.

Why Do We Need to Control Anger?

January 30th, 2012

It is often difficult to preserve control of your natural impulses while others close to us make us angry. It can be still more difficult with the cost of living raising every year and bringing more pressure into our lives, and as if that is not sufficient the legal and political system is regularly putting more stress on us everyday.

Most of us deal with the stressors in life as they come our way, but a few of us cannot and become out of control. Management is frequently the best answer for treating anger; but then, the individual must be ready to admit their actions are leading to more problems and be prepared to obtain a solution.

If a person react violently, verbally abusive, assaulting others and so on, it not only leads to trouble for the person that is out of control, it also causes difficulties for others. Normally when a person has anger issues he or she will attack other people perhaps physically or mentally or even both. The angry person will often attack in a way that belittles, humiliates, harms, or threatens another. This person truly needs to learn to manage his or her anger, because anybody around him or her is affected to a certain amount.

Anger is mainly the inability to restrain our basic impulses, needs and emotions. If a person is out of contact with his emotions, it frequently creates a chaotic mind. Anger is not necessarily a bad thing, when and if a person is threatened; it is always good to have an amount of anger to protect you, but when a person doesn’t have any control at all then it will lead to problems.

Anger, sadness, joy and happiness are all parts of our emotions, and when we have those emotions in control we can live a productive life. However, when we begin to target or attack others then it is more and more difficult for us to handle our life and anger.

One clearly recognized example is school bullying, for a few children going to school is a nightmare, each day a bully will antagonize this child pushing him beyond his limit of control. The child may hold his feelings in for a period, but eventually he or she is going to loose control, due to the fact that none of us is prepared to continue permitting someone to make our lives miserable.

Sorry to say, when this child gets to his or her limit and returns the attack on the other youngster, he then becomes the culprit and is frequently punished. The bully could quite often get away with his actions, and once the victim takes action he or she is frequently punished. The school personnel will often say why didn’t you tell me what was going on? However, the fact is the child most likely told the personnel and in my experiences, they seldom act. The out come is that now we have two children with anger troubles and more people in trouble. This is merely one of the numerous reasons why a person cultivates anger to the point at which they feel they have to retaliate.

Each time we are angry we feel it in our body and mind. Our body will often tense up if we feel angry. If you feel this tension then it is time to step back and take control. Ask yourself, why am I mad? Why do I feel this way? Asking yourself questions might help you find the answers if you search your mind hard enough.

Generally after a person has developed a level of anger that is out of control, they will frequently strike out at people even if there is no justifiable reason. The person may have just moved something that belonged to that person and they respond by saying something like, you stupid moron, why in the hell did you move my belongings? I cannot believe how stupid you are. Why do you bother breathing? This is completely inappropriate behavior; the angry person may attack physically by kicking, hitting, punching, spitting, or causing other types of harm to the individual. It is vital to get management in play if you have anger problems.

If you cannot control your emotions then one day, someone will control them for you. Anger is great if you have it under control, but when you loose control somebody, someday will pay and that someone in most cases will be you as well as the trail of victims you leave behind you.

Side Effects Of Anabolic Steroids

January 30th, 2012

Anabolic Steroids are prevalent nowadays. Many athletes use them to increase performance. Even though it may have some good benefits, there are side effects. These types of steroids promote skeletal muscle growth and enhance male sexual qualities. They are commonly used by body builders, weightlifters and others associated with strength training. With its ability to improve muscular performance and decrease fats in the body, athletes have increased potential. That is why it is illegal for athletes who are joining a certain official competitions to use them. They can be injected or taken orally. Dosages depend on the condition and age of the person. Here are some of their side effects.

Some side effects are serious and some are more common. It is said that orally taken steroids have more adverse effects. This type affects the liver in particular. Anabolic steroids are said to reduce the livers excretory purposes. The liver can be damaged from a bleeding cystic condition which is patently dangerous. Moreover, the use of steroids has been connected to liver cancer, but this is still being studied.

In the cardiovascular system, anabolic steroids can cause changes in the heart processes and strokes are possible especially to those who are taking oral steroids. In the male reproductive system, it is said that these can cause erectile dysfunction and could also lead to impotence even though sexual energy is enhanced. Atrophy or shrinking of the testicles can also occur and is associated with very high dosages of anabolic steroids.

Since the skin is the largest organ of the human body, it cannot be considered safe from these adverse side effects, enlarged skin pores, especially in women because their skin is more sensitive than men is common. This process is also known as virilization and it is an irreversible side-effect. Acne is another problem. Intake of steroids can worsen the condition of existing acne conditions. Stretch marks are also expected to appear, especially in women. It is not true that steroids cause baldness, but it can speed up the process of its occurrence.

Internal changes are also expected. With high dosages of anabolic steroids, both men and women may experience a change in behavior. Usually, it is associated with an increase in aggression and rage behavior. Some athletes consider this advantageous because they need the rage to optimize their performance. However, it is also not uncommon to feel severe depression. This usually results in huge weight gains and self confidence falters. In addition, feminization occurs in males. With the huge amounts of testosterone, some may be converted to estrogen which is the female sex hormone.

This is the side effect that most body builders do not want to experience. In females, masculinization occurs. This results in a more masculine behavior and nature. This may enhance growth of body hairs. However, symptoms vary from person to person. Some men develop breasts because of the high intake of these anabolic steroids. They can only be removed by plastic surgery. This condition is called Gynecomastia. The risk of cardiovascular diseases is also increased. Decreased growth, kidney problems, severe headaches, liver problems, and immune system deficiencies are also side effects of taking anabolic steroids. So what do you think? Still up for it?

The Baseball Family

January 30th, 2012

In the pre dawn hours of October 21, 2000, I shook my two sons out of their bunk beds and led them still stumbling and puffy eyed into my blue Chevy Cavalier. They didnt know it yet, but we were starting off on an eight-hour road trip up Route 81 to my fathers house. This was the first game of the Subway Series. And I wanted three generations of Mets fans to root together that day.

Baseball, more than any other sport, is passed from generation to generation. I can still remember leafing through an old photo album not long after my grandfather passed away. A yellow newspaper clipping fluttered down to my lap. I had to smile and shake my head as I unfolded and read a story from the Daily News about the 1986 Mets. Baseball and family.

According to the Baseball Almanac, more than 100 Father-Son teams have made the Bigs; Bobby and Barry Bonds, Felipe and Moises Alou, Tito and Terry Francona, Bob, Aaron, and Brett Boone, and the Griffeys to name a few. But perhaps more significant, and more incalculable to the game has been the impact of unnumbered parents bringing kids to Little League games, trips to the ballpark, and endless discussions of strategies, stats, and standings around the dinner table.

Its no secret that Major League Baseball is struggling to market the game to youth. But I think they are ignoring the obvious; Baseball is inherited more than sold. If MLB wants young people to adopt the game, they need to bring out the families. Thats a challenge when a family outing at the park can leave a two-hundred dollar hole in your mitt. But its a problem the league will need to address if theyre truly concerned about the future of Americas Pastime.

Camping Requirements And Safety Measures

January 29th, 2012

An outdoor recreational activity, camping involves people spending the night in tents at a campsite. They do it in an attempt to temporarily avoid the din and bustle of city life, and to get close to nature. If you are looking to spend a comfortable time in camping, you can opt for the recreational vehicles.

The recreational vehicles are luxurious and have all types of modern facilities like air conditioning, bathrooms, kitchens, showers, satellite TV and internet connection. Some feel that the real experience of outdoor camping comes from tent camping. Various touring bicycles, boats, and bush planes are used. For camping, you need to carry with you some basic camping equipment. Tent, sleeping bag, portable stove, flashlight, axe for cutting wood, and a rope.

A tent consists of sheets of fabric that are attached to different poles to produce a shelter. Tents can be of different types like the flysheet, gazebo, fishermens tent, or a beach tent. Sleeping bags are warm and well insulated. They provide protection from wind, perspiration and exposure to view. A portable stove is a lightweight stove used for camping. They are usually single burner stoves using solid or liquid fuel for ignition. A flashlight is useful in the dark to illuminate the surrounding.

It is important to plan your camping well in advance. Always expect the unexpected. Consider the worst possible cases that you may have to face and think of ways how you can deal with the problem. Send copies of your route to your family members. Register yourself before going out for a hike and similarly sign in after coming back. Use a two-way radio to communicate with your partner.

Always be prepared to face weather change while you are camping. Make sure that you are carrying the necessary camping gears like waterproof backpacks, tents, sleeping bags, and other such things. Carry a waterproof jacket and pants with you. Carry layer clothes so that you can remove or add a layer according to the weather condition. Carry along with you a topographical map of the area so that you dont easily get lost while camping. A whistle may come handy.

Beware of insect bites and stings. Always use a DEET-based insect repellent and check for bites behind your ears, under the arm, and in the groin area. Camping provides the best way of engaging in adventures and getting close to Nature.

What Is Dry Eye Syndrome?

January 29th, 2012

Dry eye syndrome, also called Keratoconjunctivitis sicca or xerophthalmia, refers to a lack of lubrication and moisture in the eye. This is mainly due to a decrease in the tear production or an increase in the tear film evaporation. The typical symptoms of dry eye syndrome are burning and a subtle but constant eye irritation. The condition may also lead to inflammation of the frontal eye tissue.

There are several factors that may bring about dry eye syndrome. The condition is more common with older age, since tear production decreases with age. Dry eye as a syndrome may occur as a side effect of many medications. Harsh environmental conditions, such as a dusty or windy climate, may worsen the condition. Even your workplace environment, comprising of air conditioning or a dry heating system, may easily dry out your eyes. Insufficient blinking, such as, when constantly staring at a monitor screen, is another significant cause of dry eye syndrome.

The basic treatment for dry eye syndrome is to replenish the moisture content of the eye surface. To accomplish this, the ophthalmologist typically prescribes artificial tears, which are lubricating eye drops that aid in alleviating the symptoms of irritation and burning sensation in the eyes. Another treatment that goes one step further involves the application of Restasis (cyclosporine) eye drops, which effectively enhance tear production. A healthy diet, comprising of a sufficient amount of omega-3 fatty acids, lowers the chances of contracting dry eye syndrome. Salmon, sardine, herring, and cod liver oils are rich sources of omega-3 fatty acids.

Patients wearing contact lenses need to take an extra precaution prior to the application of artificial tears. Specifically, it is necessary that the patient removes the contact lenses before using the eye drops. Moreover, the patient needs to wait 15 minutes or longer for the medicinal drops to take effect, and only after that can the contact lenses be worn again.

Dry eye syndrome is slightly more common in women than in men. A shocking 10-14 million people in the United States suffer from dry eye syndrome. The condition is more prevalent among those older than 40 years. An estimated 75% of the old-aged population shows signs of dry eye syndrome.

If you suffer from any of the above explained symptoms that depict the dry eye syndrome, please visit your doctor as soon as possible to avoid any complications.

All insurance companies exist for one reason. They are in business to make a profit. The way they do this is simple. If the insurance company pays out less for claims than it brings in from all the current policies it makes what’s called an underwriters profit.

So obviously ‘business insurance’ is a policy which is intended to serve the needs of a business rather than the needs of an individual. In general this type of policy protects a business from monetary losses due to just about any type of catastrophe you can imagine, fire, theft, vandalism and even business loss insurance can protect a business should they have a bad quarter or lose money for a short period of time. 4. Work closely with the insurance agent: By working closely with your insurance agent you’ll get valuable advice to protect your business from unexpected disasters.

5. Follow the Insurer’s recommendations: By following your insurer’s recommendations and guidelines you will be able to reduce your premiums. Basically this is because the insurer thinks you are less likely to make a claim.

Repair Shops & Ordering Tires For Your Car

January 29th, 2012

They go with us everywhere and they give a whole new meaning to the phrase of being on the road. The tires on your car are literally on the road everywhere you go and, when it comes time to change them, nothing but the best will do. The first step to choosing tires for your car is determining the style and size of your current tires and writing it down on a piece of paper.

When choosing tires for your car, two of the most important considerations are quality and warranty. When purchasing any new type of automobile equipment or parts, such as tires, you should receive a clear warranty from the manufacturer. In order for this to remain effective, you must keep the original purchase receipt and follow any instructions as provided with the purchase of your new tires.

When it comes to selecting a repair shop to order and install the tires, you will want to make sure that they offer quality service and have a reputation to match. In an effort to ensure your satisfaction, check out the shops Better Business Bureau report. This information, which is free at BBB.com, will provide a detailed history of the repair shop and includes the length of time in business, number of complaints that have been filed within 24-36 months and how many of those were resolved satisfactorily according to the Better Business Bureau standards.

When you are ready to purchase, call your local car repair shop and inquire about availability. If the tires that you need are in stock, the technicians may be able to service your car immediately. If they have to be ordered, you will be given a cost estimate and an expected date of arrival. On this date, you should plan to be available for taking your automobile into the shop for servicing.

Before agreeing to the order, make sure that you have everything in writing. When dealing with a transaction that involves both parts and labor, you will need to have a receipt that clearly shows the cost of the both the tires and the cost of the actual labor. This will help to eliminate any future disputes over a cost quoted and will make the transaction much smoother.

And finally, when choosing tires for your car and a repair shop to install them, you will want to choose a company that stands behind their work. If a car repair shop doesnt offer any type of guarantee on their work, consider shopping around for another tire shop. As a customer, it will give you great peace of mind in knowing that your hard-earned money is well spent with a company who appreciates your business by standing behind their own.

When to Buy

You may have tried several brands and models and may have listed down your impressions about them. Don’t fall for sales. They maybe cheap but then is it the ski that you are looking for? Do you feel comfortable with them on?

Check Popular Brands

Be sure to inspect and try on different models by top manufacturers. As you move from brand to brand, you will narrow down your choices and eventually have one pair that will suit you.
